Tech in EMS, Inc.

A nonprofit dedicated to developing, promoting, and maintaining
technology for EMS services across the country.

About Us

It started with a problem: how can our EMS agency improve communications? After almost a decade of solving EMS problems with technology, we've developed more than a dozen tools to help services just like yours.

Check out some of our work

Why update a whiteboard by hand when a screen can display the data you already have?

Runs on commodity hardware

A TV and a computer (or a microcomputer, like a Raspberry Pi) is all you need to run this software. It doesn't require any fancy, vendor-specific equipment, which means you save money.

Use the data you already have

If you're going to write something on a whiteboard based on data that's already in your digital schedule, then why not use that data to start? Headsup has configurable times to poll a schedule and update the display.

Log call volumes, display chores, and more

Because it's open-source, feel free to incorporate anything you'd like. By default, you can easily record call volumes, types, and dispatch locations—and this info can actually be used in other applications, too.

An inexpensive way to alert your responders to calls.

Integrates with whatever you'd like

Do you use Slack? What about Discord or Telegram? Text messages? AIR can integrate with any of those to give your responders notice that a call came in.

Extra features on Slack

AIR provides yes/no response functionality in Slack, so other responders and command staff know who's going on the call.

Inexpensive to build, inexpensive to run

If you currently receive text message dispatches, we can use those. If you have an old scanner laying around, we can use that too. There are multiple ways to inject call notifications into the system to be distributed.

When a polling add-on to Slack was discountinued, we reverse-engineered it

Easy to use

All your users have to do is write /slack-poll, and a modal will pop up allowing the poll to be created. Users can also create a poll with one message:

/slack-poll [multiple] [anonymous] Poll Title
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Multiple options

Create polls that allow multiple answers or make anonymous polls quickly and easily. You can even lock a poll when you want to shut off voting.

Free forever

It's open-source, so the software itself is free. If you already have server space, slack-poll is so lightweight that you should be able to run it without any significant overhead.

Now you can moderate when people use @channel in their Slack messages

Flexible moderation

With the "moderators" group, you can also select additional people—in addition to workspace admins and owners—to approve or reject messages without giving them full permissions over the workspace.

Flexible permissions

Easily change permission differences between admins and moderators, and add or remove moderated channels with ease.

Recognized by the tech world

We've spoken about EMS technology at mutliple national conferences and have been featured on Slack's corporate blog.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your generous donation will be used for tech resources like service space, to fund grants for collegiate EMS, and to support us developing new techologies.

We're happy to hear from you! Please contact us using the information below, and we'll be in touch.

We'd be glad to do our best to assist you with whatever's broken, but we can't make promise any specific resolution. Contact us below to let us know more.

At this time, our technology solutions and education only support EMS services. Regarding grants in particular: we are currently only supporting collegiate EMS services and their members.

All of our products are open-source and are available in our GitHub organiation. We'd love to see your pull requests!
